Breakfast on Balboa Island doesn’t get much tastier than items served at Crocker’s Abundant Table on Marine Avenue. When you think of breakfast on the island, Wilma’s is the first thought that comes to mind for most. However, over the past couple of years we have seen new dining options open on the island. I have been to Crocker’s The Well Dressed Frank (next door) several times for burgers, brats and fish & chips. I’ve told everyone I know that they have to go there for “Franks Big Beef”! It is the best burger I have ever had. It is seriously amazing. All of their food is great.
A few weeks ago, my friends visited and had breakfast at Crocker’s Abundant Table. Since then I was asking myself why I still hadn’t tried it! So Ollie, Scarlett and I decided to go there and see what it was all about. I ordered the breakfast burrito and they each had a waffle with bananas and whip cream. Everything was delicious. I loved that the breakfast burrito was piping hot as well. Here’s a tip… bring your own cup and get coffee for a buck!
We also enjoyed chatting with some visitors dining in the window. Their names were Mark and Lindsey Tapia and they were on the island celebrating their 2nd year wedding anniversary. They live in San Diego and have been coming to the island for years, where they enjoy a family cottage on Diamond avenue!
The display case of pies was also quite impressive. We will have to come back to taste some of those!

Here is a picture of the massive mouth watering hamburger. You can also see a picture of Frank Crocker, Balboa Island’s first paid fire chief, in the background. Now you may understand why the restaurant is named Crocker’s “The Well Dressed Frank”! Frank was the fire chief in 1927 and held the position for 25 years. Victoria, his granddaughter, operates the local eatery with her husband. They are wonderful people, doing an excellent job providing a unique and tasty restaurant on the island. Stop in, say hi and try something new!
