boat-parade3Dazzling holiday lights reflecting on the dark blue water of Newport Harbor signal that’s it’s time for the 102nd annual Christmas Boat Parade. The theme of the 2010 Christmas Boat Parade is “Lights, Camera…Christmas in Newport Harbor!” and participants will bedeck their craft in Old Hollywood Glamour, while celebrating the history of films and movies in Newport Beach. The parade takes place for the five nights of December 15 -19. Starting at 6:30 PM from Bay Island and finishing on the same spot at 9:00PM, the parade is a treasured tradition in Southern California.

Hundreds of decorated water craft from million-dollar yachts to an array of small boats, sailboats and motor craft will present a glittering display of Christmas lights, décor and music as the Christmas Boat Parade lights up the harbor. Each year boat owners try to out-do each other with displays that include animated scenes, sound, carolers and theme costumes. The parade of boats will proceed through a 14 mile course giving spectators in harbor-side restaurants, on the beaches and boardwalk, and in homes along the route a magical spectacle that has thrilled viewers year after year.

As the perfect setting for the Christmas Boat Parade, homes and businesses along the Newport Harbor join in on the holiday spirit, as they feature brilliant displays of lights and décor. The local Chamber of Commerce “Ring of Lights” contest, awards homes and businesses with prizes and coveted bragging rights.

On the last night of the Christmas Boat Parade, the annual fireworks show over the Balboa Pier, will close the parade and light up the night.

The Christmas Boat Parade was called “One of the Top Ten Holiday Happenings in the Nation” by the New York Times, and is a delightful holiday tradition for locals and visitors alike. The parade makes the holiday season come alive in Southern California, and has become one of the most anticipated events of the year.
